Friday - Sunday, June 6th - 8th, 2008

It was another hot year for the Detroit Festival of the Arts, and even the humid weather did not keep the crowds away from exceptional performances by Babylon Circus, Raul Malo, Teddy Thompson, Pistolera, Thornetta Davis and the Detroit Jazz Orchestra, to name just a few.  The Festival continued its annual tradition of featuring unique street theatre acts like Close-Act Visual Theatre parading through the festival site as XL-Insects, along with awesome aerial circus performances by Wise Fool New Mexico making their debut in Detroit.  Osadia returned transforming the ordinary hairdos of many adventurous festival-goers into memorable hair art.  Children were equally delighted in the Children’s Fair which featured high-energy performances by the Hudson Vagabond Puppets and the Marionetas de la Esquina.

The Detroit Festival of the Arts would like to thank its sponsors who help make this distinct arts event possible, including:  the Michigan Council for the Arts & Cultural Affairs, The Chrysler Foundation, DTE Energy Foundation, the Richard and Jane Manoogian Foundation, MASCO, Metro Times, WJBK Fox 2, National City Bank, WDET, 93.9 The River, and Peter D. & Julie Fisher Cummings, to name just a few.  Another year of great art, great food, and great visitors – thanks to all who help make this event what it is:  Detroit’s Unrivaled International Arts Festival.

FESTIVAL UPDATE:
The University Cultural Center Association (UCCA) would like to thank its sponsors and partners who worked with us over the past 22 years to create this wonderful, well-loved community event.  Due to recent economic trends, we are unable to continue this annual event.  However, please continue to refer back to our website to learn of other new cultural events in the area.
